After a two-year campaign with parents and governors, the Department for Education has approved funding to rebuild Millbrook High.
I am delighted that the Department for Education has approved the rebuild of Millbrook High School — a campaign this office has backed with parents, governors and the local authority since 2024.
The current buildings date from the 1960s. Teachers have been working around leaking roofs, failing heating and classrooms that are simply too small for a growing roll. The new school will be built on the existing site so pupils can stay in Millbrook throughout construction.
I raised this on the floor of the House and in writing with ministers. Today’s decision is what happens when a community refuses to take no for an answer.
I will keep pressing for a clear timetable and for construction jobs to go to local people wherever possible.
